Hip Hop for all ages

So I listen to a lot of random music. One of my pre-sets is Techo/electronic music 101.1 FM. The other day I realized it is now a hip hop station that plays random old hip hop. Like Biggie, Snoop, Nelly,OutKast, Jay-Z etc..... I reminds me of a simpler time. Check it out....101.1 FM.

**Also there is a movie coming out January 16th 2009 about the tragic life story of rap star Notorious B.I.G. I saw the previews when I went to see Cadillac Records. It looks pretty interesting.

Keep going

I refuse to get sick this year! I just dont have time. It doesnt help when a 1/4 of my clients show up sick. I take my vitamins everyday and am TRYING to get enough sleep. I should probably stop working 11 or 12 hr days but thats beside the point. As long as I can stay well until the 31st I will be happy.

I have also decided I am going to Paris next year, even if its alone. I have a friend who lives there (who is coming to AZ today for her bros wedding actually) so I really wont be alone. I have been to europe before and im not scared to travel alone. I just need to figure out when I want to go and find a plane ticket. Also I really want to go on a little trip before then, maybe california or something. I havent been anywhere since July which is FOREVER for me. I have a client who has a condo in Hawaii and said I could stay there.

Pins and Needles

As some of you know I get Acupuncture once a month in Tucson. My friend Leslie does it at her clinic called Ancient Way. I get it done for many reasons....my hands, arms, head, "woman stuff",wrinkles and im a little crazy. I love going down there once a month. Its a little vacation for me. Since I work from home I dont drive very often so I enjoy my 4 hrs in the car to listen to music/sing and think. People think Im strange for driving there but I like it. Heres some pictures of my hands from my last treatment.

I have also had "cupping" done. When I get that done again Ill have her take a picture.

Tis the Season

I bought my first real live Christmas tree this year. I got it last Monday night. Its was after 9pm and it seemed like all the tree lots were closed but we found one open until 10pm on Mesa Dr and Brown. I got it for $50 plus $15 for the tree stand. It smells great! Its a Grand Fir. I felt like such a grown up getting my own tree. It didnt get decorated until Wednesday , Bonnie and her nieces were good enough to do it. My plan was to get a real tree this year and after the holidays get a fake pre-lit tree for cheap, but now I think I kind of like having a real tree. I'll have to see when its time to clean it up. It was born in Oregon and will die in my front room.

Pumpkin pie and all that jazz

This pass Thursday was Thanks giving. A Holiday set aside for us to be thankful and thoughtful of all our blessings. Sometimes this day has nothing to do with showing our gratitude. We either wake up at the crack of dawn to start the day of cooking or stay up late the night before baking our pies and preparing for the day to come. We spend hours preparing for a meal that usual is over with in 15mins or so. We make the list of food we want served at dinner, we give out assignments (assuming there are others who are willing to help), we make our own grocery shopping list and then we battle the chaos at the grocery store the week of Thanksgiving because we dont want to get our stuff too early. Weather you are cooking for 6 or 60 i'm pretty sure the routine is the same. If you are hosting this blessed event you also spend the week cleaning and decorating your house so when your family and friends come the house is spotless and is oozing of "thanksgiving spirit". You have colors of golden yellow, rust red and brown throw around the house to create a "harvest wonderland".

When you have all the food prepared you need to figure out how it will be served. What goes where? Should the rolls be first or last? Do we need a separate plates for the jello? Once that is done you are ready to sit down and eat. Then its time to say the blessing and get everyone qiet for the 2 min prayer. As soon as amen is said everyone scrambles to get what they want first. You wait your turn and pray they have a decent piece of turkey left when you finally get your chance. You get to enjoy sitting and chatting for about 30 mins then its time to start thinking about getting the desserts out. Do we have small plates for the pie? Wheres the whipped cream? Should we let everyone dish up their own or should someone serve it? Finally dessert is over and its time to clean up. At this point most of your guest have already bailed so it up to you again to clean your house. Why do we do all this? What makes us do it year after year? It comes down to one thing....tradition.

Yummy!

Last night we went to El Rico's in Queen Creek for dinner (power and riggs). Why did we go all the way out there you ask? I am being a good girl and getting my visiting teaching done early. One of the girls Elise that we (Bonnie and me) visit, her family owns the restaurant and she works so much that it is only way we can visit her. We brought along Katie, Audry and Amy who we visit teach and/or they visit us. It is the cutest place! It would be perfect for a wedding reception or party. The food is good too. The portions arent enormous but they are a good size and the food isnt greasy. Bonnie fell in love with their chicken enchiladas. Im pretty sure we are going to go back...every month now to do our visiting teaching. Also they are closed Sundays so thats another reason to support them.

Fun in the desert

This last saturday night I went out to sycamore creek and went riding. It was fun...I havent been very social lately. I hung out with a group of people I havent seen for awhile so it was nice. I was in really good spirits. I was even told I was bubbly. My friend Amber and I are discussing getting some kind of toy....OK not really but it would be fun. Also how hot would we be in we came with our own "romping" toy??? The guys would LOVE us. The problem is we really wouldnt know what we were doing it it broke. Maybe when we learn more about them.

Amber and Scott in the Roketta.

Another part of the night a group of really drunk people came over to our bon fire. I heart helpful drunk people. They helped put ALL our wood in the fire. It was so nice of them. Then they drove away...(great drunks with qauds and jeeps) but not before some dumb*** in a dodge ended up in a ditch. It was so funny. OF course our guys trying to prove their manliness went over to try to help see what they could do.

All in all it was a pretty good night. I didnt get home till about 3am and I my hair smelled like camp fire but I didnt care and still didnt wash it for church :)

What to be for Halloween? There are so many choices...ok not really. It seems like Halloween is just an excuse for chicks to dress up like sluts. Just as Miranda says to Carrie: "The only two choices for women; witch and sexy kitten." Carrie: "Oh you just said a mouthful there sister." What are the apparently small percetage of women who dont want to walk around in lingerie and bunny ears suppose to wear for Halloween? Also what kind of message are we sending the "little ones". Maybe Halloween is a day when you can show your true colors. Maybe the sweet innocent girl next door who dresses up as a "sexy nurse" would really like to "check your temperature"...
I was looking through one of the many Halloween Ad's you get in the mail and found a decent "greek goddess" outfit. It wasnt too scandalous, then I noticed it was a plus size. What is that says....You can show some skin as long as yours not over a size 14? I'll probably will just stay home this year, pass out candy to the random children who come to my door and chow down on the bowl myself.....

***does that look like the Dorthy from The Wizard of OZ you saw as a child????

Slice of me

It has been brought to my attention that I don't blog enough (keiko). So heres whats been going on that I haven't BLOGGED about.

I finished reading Gone With the Wind...my copy had 1448 pages. Yes a very long read but very very worth it. I think I love Rhett Butler.....where can I find him??? I am currently reading Scarlett the sequel that was written by Alexandra Ripley. So far I really like it. I am also watching Gone With the Wind the movie. Its kind of weird doing it.

I also have been crazy busy with work. I swear in the last month I have gotten 15-20 new clients. I am really trying and sticking to so far to taking 2 days off a week. With the Holidays coming that will become more difficult.

I also have been stressing about my birthday which is coming up (monday oct 13th). I will be old....ok not really but closer to 30 than 20 and that freaks me out a bit. To celebrate I am throwing myself a little "gathering" at my parents this saturday. I do that so I dont get upset about the party plans. Its worked out for years this way. I do it at my parents for obvious reasons....size and quality. Its much bigger with an awesome back yard and Its way nicer than my house. Dont get me wrong I love my house but my parents place works better for parties.

So thats a little slice of my life. Not that exciting I know. I have no trips planned as of yet. Probably Paris in April/March and hopefully Disneyland in January/February. I just need someone to travel with. Maybe I should find a man.....

***if you want to come to my "gathering" and I havent already emailed/facebook/text you about it...hit me up for info.

Costco

This week I got my first Costco card. I feel like I have been invited into a secret world filled with giant tubs of candy and huge bottles of cleaning supplies. With in the first 2 mins of walking in I was already hooked. I grabbed a box of "27 Elegant hand crafted holiday cards with matching self-seal envelopes" and it was only $19.99. Thats 74 cents a card! Then I continued to shop and enjoy everything...in bulk. I felt like such a grown up. I ended up spending over $150...but I did get 2 christmas presents and a set of 360 clear plastic cutlery.

Better than Instant Oatmeal

In todays world we want everything quick and easy. We want things to happen sooner than later and we want it to be quality. There are a lot of "instant" things. Like instant oatmeal, an instant tan, instant lawn, instant hot water, and instant messenger.

One of my favorites is an instant tan. This last Monday (for the second time) I was "spray tanned" by my friend Kristin. She decided after her 3rd baby she no longer wanted to work but wanted to make a little extra money on the side. She has it all set up in her front room of her house. I do feel a bit awkward standing in the "tent" in my tube top and shorts (you can wear your swimming suit but I don't want lines on my shoulders and no one ever sees my upper thigh except the Doctor and my waxer anyways). Plus hes my friend from high schools wife..... So I stand there in different positions while she hand sprays my body. I have really like the results. She has 3 different kinds of "tanner". It looks really natural and NOT ORANGE! I like this way better than standing in that booth to get spray tanned. You either feel like you are going into a gas chamber and you cant breath or you are reminded of the "Friends" episode where Ross get spray tanned and ends up looking ridiculous. Also it is WAY healthier and quicker than laying out or tanning in a bed. You dont have to lay in the hot sun and you dont get skin cancer (a plus in my book). I would recommend it to anyone AND its only $10.

My other "instant" is my lawn. My dad and brother put sod down in my front yard saturday morning. Its looks so much better than before. I have had dirt for most of the summmer. Its amazing how the sod comes in these rolls and they just roll them out in the yard. Right now I just have to make sure it stays wet so it can start to grow. My dad calls me everyday to check on it. Im a little paranoid too. The sprinklers are set to run 3 times a day but I have to check to make sure it doesnt dry out. I cant wait for it to be under 100 degrees during the day. They also put rock in and it looks so much better.

Dads and brothers are great.

Email from Austin

My little brother is serving his mission in Illinois. A couple weeks ago I got this email. Its totally Austin. I copied it exactly and hes a terrible speller just like his sister.

"elder, how old is that?"‏

one day following church i felt myself famished and decied to remidy the situation. the only thing i could salvage out of the infested missionary cabinets was this mac & cheese. while i proceeded to cook said pasta a very distubing smell invaded my nostrils with great force. i quickly read the experation date on the box to find even more unsettling information.........."FEB 15 02"...........my mind stated "NAY" but my stomach proclaimed "YEA"................many moments later, after consuming pasta that expired when i attended middle school, i came to a conclusion that forbids contestation.......MISSIONARIES CANNOT BE POISONED i hope you enjoyed that. its a true story it happened a few days ago and i'm still alive. well i love you and hope to get some letters soon. love elder thornhill

PHONES!

They say it comes in threes and I believe it does. So 1st my phone died and I lost all my info, 2nd (last week) I cracked my screen, 3rd they messed up my PLAN at Verizon and they took off text/pic messaging off my plan. So that means I have $450 in charges. LOVELY.....I realized today I received 2 pic notifications that I had to go look online to view my pics. I remembered the last time that happened they had screwed my PLAN up so I called. Jason, from Verizon (a gay guy with a lisp from SLC) was very helpful to get that all taken care of. I dont know what it is about gay guys. You just feel like you can trust them. So HOPEFULLY that is the end of my phone saga.....fingers crossed.

Movies

I love old movies and musical are my favorite! I wish life was more like a musical. Dont you ever feel the need to break out in song and dance when something really great happens? In old movies it always works out in the end. The guy always gets the right girl, the farm is always saved, the small town beauty get the modeling job, and the villain never wins. Often when I watch movies and TV I am disappointed. There is so much crap we are forced to watch. Actors used to have talent. Not only could they act, but sing and dance as well. I guess I will continue to watch TCM and my old movies and be content.

Yes, I did it again

While at the gym this evening I broke my phone. The screens cracked. It must have happened when I dropped my bag on the floor. I think my lock or keys cracked it. Luckily I am using my moms old phone till they ship me a new one thursday. I really am starting to hate phones.

I might be losing my mind

Today at church after sacrament mtg I went to the restroom and after finishing my "business" I washed my hand and started to walk to Relief Society. Then I noticed my favorite Silpada ring (the silver cuff one) was missing. I went back to the bathroom and thought it maybe fell in the trash when I threw the paper towel away. It wasnt there. Bonnie thought it might have been in my purse so I went through that. Nothing. I Went back to the Chapel to the pew I had been sitting in. Again nothing. I even got down on my knees and looked on the floor. Finally after RS I decided to go through the trash (bonnies suggestion) NOTHING!!! My friend Limhi even took pics and a video of me doing this and it is now posted on Facebook. I was SO upset! I finished out church and did another once over on the floor in the chapel. Again nothing. I went to my families for dinner and started playing around with Mckenna, which involves me hitting her in the boob (seriously I didnt look like that when I was 14 yrs old!) Then she hit me back of course. It was then I noticed it hurt which it doesnt normally. So I looked in my bra....and guess what I found?!? Yep...my ring. Earlier, while in the restroom I had adjusted my bra and it must had slip off and landed in my bra. Im so happy I found it but a little embarrassed it was in my bra the whole time. Funny thing is, when I text my friends to tell them I found it Hillary guess It was in my bra. I asked how she knew. She said she always finds things in hers....

men and cars

Last night I learned a very important lesson. Never, NEVER tell a man where to go when hes driving(even if its your car he's driving). I realized last night that you cant EVER help a man with directions even if he has no idea where he is going. Its just best to keep your mouth shut and act dumb. You cant even make hand gestures where to exit. They (men) get so upset! It doesn't matter you were just trying to help. You have to resist the urge and keep quiet. Also when they finally need your help they don't ask for it. You're just suppose to know its time to open your mouth and tell him where to go. This is probably another reason I'm not married.

UFC

So on saturday night the guys came over to watch the UFC fight. I personally dont get into it but they needed a place to watch it and lets face it...I have a nice big TV and a very very comfy couch (they fall asleep on it often) When I say fight of course I mean 7 fights (at least). The thing is there is the main fight and a bunch of other ones before and after depending on how long the "big" fight lasts. I dont get it.....grow men punching and kicking each other. Half the time I cant watch because I think someone gonna break something or lose an eye (one guy really did get his eye poked and it was gross). The most entertain part is looking at all the dumb tattoos they have and the advertisements on their shorts (like what they choose to have on their butt). It makes me think of things like: do the advertisers pay more depending on where their logo is on their shorts?
The thing is I bet I end up watching one again. The dumb things we do for guys.....

still need to pack

Tomorrow I am going to Park City for the first time. I leave tomorrow afternoon with my parents and lil sister. We are driving half way tomorrow and the rest thursday. I am excited to get out of the heat. I plan to read, shop and do some hiking. Im glad I am flying home and not driving. I promise to take some pictures.

TRUCKS ARE FOR GIRLS!!!

This is my truck for the week. Why you ask? My friend and I traded because he drives to Litchfield everyday and my car gets better gas mileage. I LOVE IT!!! I feel so big. It reminds me of back in the day when I had my red truck. Its funny though...my left foot doesnt touch the floor in the truck when I drive. But I Feel like a pimp!

I HATE TECHNOLOGY

My phone decided it wanted to leave this world and crashed. It was very inconvenient. I got a new phone and sync it and lost all my info. That means all my contacts, addresses, numbers, memos and APPOINTMENTS! I am basically screwed! So if you would like to text/email/message me and give me your info that would be wonderful! Also if some reason you have a hair appointment with me please let me know. Im trying to get my calendar back together.

The smell of death

So earlier this week (tuesday) my clients Christy told me that by the side gate, where my clients go through to come back to my salon door smelled awful like something died. I went out later and sure enough it wreaked of death. I couldnt figure it out. My garbage didnt smell, I didnt have any dead animals in my yard...nothing. Then today when I was helping Jessi take the baby out to the truck I saw it (and smelled it) a dead, half decomposed cat. Mostly I just saw the tail. I still need to let my neighbor Brenda know and call animal control cuz there NO WAY Im cleaning that mess up!

***I thought Id share this lovely picture with all of you :)

Take me out to the ball game

Monday night I went to a Diamond Backs game. I had 4 tickets from my dad. Its not always easy trying to decide who to invite. You just cant take anyone to a game. I ended up taking Brady, Matt and Paul. Of course it was fun....I was the only girl but that can also be a problem. I turn into "Vince" my male counter-part. I am no longer looked at like a girl with breast...I am just "one of the guys". I should be happy to join such a club but, alas I am not. I don't want to be one of the guys. When that happens I end up getting punched in the arm or head. I don't get it. What do they want. Sometimes they want girl who can do "guy" things but then also they want a girlie girl? I guess I should have sported my heels and whore cloths, then maybe they wouldn't have kept hitting me with a bag of cotton-candy......Or maybe its a form of flirtation? Who the Hell knows.

Home Sweet Home!

I returned home Friday night. I felt like I had been gone a month. I was very productive and unpacked, read my mail, called a few clients back and started laundry. I went to bed about 11 and I got up Saturday at 5am. Thats VERY weird for me. My internal clock is off cuz Israel is 10 hours ahead of us. But I did get a lot done yesterday. It felt like 2 days!

Last night Me and Erin (sister) went to My Fair Lady. (I have season tickets) It was really good. I was so tired I was kind of doing the head bob thing. Tim Jerome played Alfred P. Doolittle and did a fantastic job! Also the famous Marni Nixon played Mrs. Higgins. For those who don't know she was the Singing voice of Audry Hepburn in My Fair Lady, Deborah Kerr in the King and I and An Affair to Remember, and Natalie Wood in West Side Story. Im so glad I went last night, even though I was exhausted.

A day in the sun...ok just an hour or so.

This morning I was woken up by the cleaning lady vacuuming the hall @ 6:45am.  That was really nice.  About 9 am my dad and I went down to the beach (about a 3 mins walk from our hotel) in Tel Aviv.  You have to rent chairs for 12 shekels each.  So I plopped down, turned and my ipod and started to soak up the sun.  My dad went swimming in the water.  I decided I should probably get in the water to say Ive actually been in the Mediterranean Sea.  I got in up to my knees.  I was only out about an hour and I got some lines.  I think I'll do the same thing tomorrow morning before we leave for Tiberias.

Another day in the middle east

Yesterday we went to Petra (which is in Jordan)  The top of my head got a little sun burned which isnt fun.  Now Im gonna have weird crusty crap on my head.  Good think I dont care what people here think.  Petra was pretty amazing.  I took alot of pictures of rocks. My father would be so proud.  He LOVES rocks!  He started talking about them as soon as we got in the van and headed towards Petra.  He talked about the mountains/rocks with our chain-smoker tour guide.

Our guide was impressed.  Our guide was kind of annoying.  Every time we stopped he lit one up.  I swear he went thru 2 packs in the 8 hrs we spent with him.  He was trying to convince me to go into business with him.  He wants me to sell Dead Sea products in my salon and do mud massages. Right...I'll just set them up in my kitchen.

Today we rode from Eilat to Tel Aviv.  BUT... before that we did a little shopping.  I probably spend more than I should have.  In my defense I did buy like 5 gifts too.  I bought the HOTTEST green heals!!! Im so excited to wear them!  My parents made fun of me.  They said I can only wear them twice a year, St. Patricks Day and Christmas.  Whatever...Im gonna rock them whenever I want!!!! (yes I used 4 exclamation points)

looking out on the beach...

We made it safe to Tel-Aviv...finally.  We had a 8 1/2 hour flight to London, 9 hour lay-over and then another 5 hour flight to Israel.  During the lay over we went to Westminster and got fish and chips.  Every time I sat down I fell asleep.  Last night I finally slept....and boy did I sleep! v I slept for like 11 hours!  We are getting ready to leave and travel for the day.

Leaving on a jet plane....

Well in 5 hours I will be leaving on a plane an on my way to Israel. Technically I will be going to London first. We will have a 9 hour lay-over and then we fly to Tel -Aviv. We get about 5:30 am TUESDAY morning. Im gonna really REALLY try not to be grumpy. Im kind of freaking out/really excited....

I know EVERYONE will miss me (those who actually see me). No worries I will be returning June 20th. I will have a lot of time to think and read. That I am excited about. Unfortunately I will not be reading Gone With the Wind as planned. Maybe next long trip....

Have fun!

To Brush or not to brush

I was wondering something....actually my friend asked me and I gave him my thoughts on it but today I started thinking about it again. Here it is: what do u do about morning breath when u wake up and your significant other want to give u a "little morning lovin"? Do u give them a quick kiss then run to brush your teeth? Or have breath mints by your bed? Or do you just dont care and go at it? Personally I think it depends on how much you like/love the other person....and of course how bad their morning breath is. Id like to know what other people think about the whole thing.

Busy Week

Today was the first day of a very LONG week! I have about 65 appointments this week. I leave Sunday for 2 weeks. A busy week for me is usually 40-45. Today went very fast. I finally shoved a piece of pizza in my mouth around 4:15. (My mother brought me a pizza that was left over from Mckenna's birthday party) All the clients were pretty easy today minus this one lady who I kind of wanted to yell at and maybe pull her hair. She complained that hair product I sold her last month made her hair "too puffy", "took all her shine away" and "made her hair lighter". First of all Im pretty sure she is nuts. There is no way the product (small talk by: TIGI) would lighten her hair. Its lighter because she does her own color and its crappy color. Too puffy? I told her it was for volume. As for shine....I think its her color.

I do have a little slice of heaven to look forward to.....ECLIPSE. I am finally reading it. I really like Edward...ok maybe love. I know he isnt real but I really dont care. Before I even read Twlight I had a thing for Vampires and now these books have deepened my love for them. Im not as obsessed as my little sister though....she has read all three books 6 times each! Thats 18 TIMES! I will probably finish it this week and I have decided to read Gone With The Wind while I am in Israel. I'll probably take another book just in case I finish it.

Well I better go to sleep before I pass out.

My life is pretty good

Today While cutting hair I realized that my life is pretty dang good. I have a great family, successful career, a house, a car that runs, air conditioner (which in AZ you are VERY grateful for), I get to travel and etc.... I am so blessed with many things. I am going to Israel to see my sister with my parents ant I get to see some pretty amazing things. I going to see things that most people only dream of seeing. I get to go to London for the 4th time....which I love! (im totally going to hit up H & M and go shopping ) I really need to stop complaining about the things that I dont have...(husband, kids, thinner body, longer legs...) Who want to be around a "Negative Nancy" as my roommate would say. My life is GREAT and I love it!

Thats all I wanted to say.

Trying something new...

I’ve been inspired by my sister Erin to start a blog. Plus many of the “married’s” have them. Ive noticed they usually have pictures of their children and pets. Since I don’t have either I’ll figure out some other pics to post.

Id like to write something exciting about my life… but most of my days are the same. I get up for work. Sometime I actually spend more than 10 mins putting on makeup, and doing my hair. Yes, as a “hair cutter” I should spend more time trying to look GORGEOUS but I don’t care, so I don’t. Since I work from home (a salon in the back of my house) my commute is very, very short. Then I start the day of hair cuts, colors, high-lights and waxes (just facial hair for those who were curious). That continues for 8-11 hours. Sometimes I actually get a break to eat which is always a treat. If im not too tired after work I go to the gym or run outside if its not blazing hot outside.

So when something EXCITING happens or something really pisses me off I’ll let you know.
