dad

This last Sunday was Fathers Day. My dad is hard to buy for because if he wants something he just gets it for himself. The only thing you are pretty safe to give him are books or goodies. I decided to give him a few books. My dad is great! He is my lawn service and my handy man. He is one of the busiest people I know but still have time to mow my lawn every week. Mckenna spoke in her ward this sunday and heres her talk. I thought it was great and wanted to share.

Father’s Day Talk

Fathers are teachers, they teach us what we want to know, what we need to know, and what we think we already know. They help us in every way they can, whether it’s helping you with a project or giving you a father’s priesthood blessing.

My Grandpa Belnap is very driven, he always accomplishes what he sets out to do. As a young boy he raised rabbits, then sold them for market, won a marble championship, and participated in sports and music. As a young man he traded a pig to get a cornet, played trumpet in a band, played at dances, bought his own tractor, and went into the military. Later as an adult he owned a store and had 7 children who he taught all he knows. He taught them how to finish what they set out to do, and do it by working hard and having integrity.

My Grandpa Thornhill was a very hard worker. He started his own company and owned it till he died, he was the Mayor of a town near Snowflake called Taylor, and had a Ranch, which he ran with minimal help. He never settled for less then the best, he only accepted excellence.
Quote: “Excellence can be attained if you… CARE more than others do, RISK more than others dare, DREAM more than others think is practical, EXPECT more than others think is possible, WORK harder than others think is necessary.”
- Gordon C. Thornhill

My father inherited a lot from my Grandpa Thornhill, including his work ethic, among never settling for anything less then your best. My dad is the most busy, hard working person I know. Not only is he a hard worker, but he is also very smart. From my dad I have learned 3 of the best ways to learn: listening, reading, and experience. He’s taught me a lot about respect and hard work through his example. He treats everyone with kindness and respect. One of the most important things he has taught me is Heavenly Father is always there for you, and as long as you do what you’re supposed to and serve others your life will be blessed. But nothing comes easy; if life were easy there would be no point to the test.

Fathers sacrifice so much for their family, and our Heavenly Father has sacrificed the most, his most beloved son. He has taught us everything by way of the scriptures. I know this church is true and that if we follow the teachings of the scriptures, church leaders, and follow the good examples of our fathers we can live with our Heavenly Father again.
